Dennis Haskins, Saved by the Bell actor born in Chattanooga, dies

Television actor Dennis Haskins, born in Chattanooga, has died at the age of 75, his agent says. The long-time performer was best known for his portrayal of Principal Richard Belding across more than a decade.

His agent, Jay Schachter, confirmed his death in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Details of the death have not been released.

“It’s a tragic loss. Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more,” Schachter said. “He was a great person, and he loved, I mean absolutely LOVED his fans. He always had time for them, no matter what.”

Haskins first played Principal Belding on the series “Good Morning, Miss Bliss.” The show became the teen sitcom “Saved by the Bell” following one season. He continued the character on the spinoff “Saved by the Bell: The New Class.”

He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His television career spanned decades.

He appeared on several other shows:

  • “Mad Men”
  • “New Girl”
  • “The Dukes of Hazzard”

Sitcom spinoffs and continuation series feature established characters across changing cast lineups. Broadcast networks often develop these programs to build upon existing audiences.

Haskins built his acting career across multiple decades following his early years in Chattanooga.
