Michael Jones killed in train and truck crash in Springfield Twp

Michael Jones died late Sunday after his vehicle hit a train on Albon Road in Springfield Twp. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the fatal collision. It happened near Airport Highway just before midnight.

The 57-year-old was a resident of Monclova. Troopers said Jones was driving the pickup truck. The truck traveled southbound through downed crossing gates.

It then struck the westbound train. Jones did not wear a seatbelt during the collision.

“We’ll have the coroner’s office, we’ll go through our complete investigation, download the vehicle, seeing speed and stuff like that,” said Sgt. Jason Metzger with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Investigators will review mechanical data from the truck. Troopers also plan medical tests.

“We’ll do toxicology, see if there’s any factors there,” Metzger said.

State highway patrol troopers handle major traffic crash reviews across Ohio. Investigators examine crash sites and download internal vehicle computer records. County coroners perform testing to confirm causes of death.

The crash scene was cleared in Springfield Twp. No other injuries were reported from the scene.
