Boy, 12, stabbed with screwdriver after Cleveland car theft incident

A 12-year-old was injured during a Sunday afternoon assault in Cleveland, officials confirmed. He required hospital treatment for a stab wound and facial abrasions.

The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority reported that officers responded to the 2700 block of Division Avenue at 4:30 p.m. Emergency responders were already on the scene. Cleveland EMS was providing medical care to the child when officers arrived.

The boy had suffered a stab wound to his calf. He also had abrasions on his face. He told officers that he and several others had been joyriding in a stolen car. They stopped at a store on St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland.

The owner of the stolen vehicle allegedly grabbed the youth at that location, according to CMHA. The owner began assaulting him. The person then stabbed him with a screwdriver.

Cleveland EMS transported the boy to MetroHealth for medical care. CMHA detectives are investigating the incident.

Housing authority police departments manage security and investigate crimes on public housing property. Detectives routinely interview victims and gather evidence following reported assaults. They forward their investigative findings to prosecutors.

No further details were released. The investigation remains active.
