Sonia Rodriguez convicted in fatal Oregon pedestrian crash

Sonia Rodriguez was convicted in an Oregon court for a crash that killed a pedestrian. The plea resolves her aggravated vehicular homicide case. Court records show Rodriguez, 44, of Oregon, pleaded no contest in connection to the death of Allen Nelson, 77.

The crash happened on March 7, 2024, near Navarre and Coy in Oregon. Police reports state Rodriguez was driving south on S. Coy Road. She turned westbound on SR-2. Nelson was walking in the road and crossing S Coy Road.

Her vehicle hit Nelson. Surveillance camera footage shows Rodriguez got out of the car to help the victim. First responders took Nelson to an area hospital for treatment. He suffered serious injuries.

Oregon police documentation said Nelson had the right of way. Nelson died later. The coroner determined he died of complications from blunt head trauma, according to Oregon Police reports.

A no-contest plea allows a defendant to accept a conviction without admitting guilt in a criminal case. The court then sets a sentencing date to deliver the penalty.

Court filings show Rodriguez entered her plea on Sept. 28, 2026. Her sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 6 in Oregon.
