Amair Davis indicted in Toledo shooting death of Camilya Thomas
Amair Davis was indicted Monday in Toledo in the shooting death of Camilya Thomas, court records show. The Sept. 22 ruling means the Chicago man will face trial in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on charges including aggravated murder and tampering with evidence.
A Lucas County grand jury returned the indictment against the 39-year-old on Monday, according to court records reviewed by 13 Action News. The panel also charged him with a grand theft count and with a dozen or more counts of felonious assault.
Toledo police were called to the 2400 block of Lawrence just before midnight on Sept. 11. Officers found Thomas with at least one gunshot wound. She died at the scene.
Court records allege that Davis shot Thomas multiple times in the head after an argument. He was arrested shortly after the incident.
Thomas was 37 years old. Her sister, Ciara Harper, said Thomas had been in a relationship with Davis for more than a decade. The couple had multiple children together, Harper said.
Harper told 13 Action News that Davis had allegedly threatened Thomas just days before her death.
Davis is being held on a $1.1 million bond. He has not been convicted of any charge.
What the charges mean
A grand jury indictment in Ohio moves a felony case from the lower court to Common Pleas Court. Prosecutors then prepare the case for trial or a plea. Bond amounts set the dollar figure a defendant must post to be released before the case ends.
Court documents and next steps
Court records list the aggravated murder charge, the felonious assault counts, the grand theft count and the evidence tampering charge. The Sept. 22 indictment sets the stage for arraignment and pretrial hearings in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
