Salvation Army to register Toledo families for Christmas aid in October

The Salvation Army will register local families for seasonal support in Toledo during two weeks this fall. The joint effort with Toys for Tots provides holiday toys and food support to households in need.

Sign-ups run in person from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9 and Oct. 13 to Oct. 16. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Registration takes place at The Salvation Army building at 620 N. Erie St. in Toledo.

Applicants must live in Lucas County. Only one application per household is allowed. Toys are reserved for children from infancy through age 12. Families with older children ages 13 to 18 will receive food support as a Kroger gift card.

The Salvation Army requires applicants to bring specific records:

  • A government-issued photo ID
  • A birth certificate for each child 12 and younger, or a printout from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services
  • Guardianship papers, if applicable
  • Proof of all other household members
  • Proof of address

The Salvation Army operates local community centers that manage emergency relief and seasonal charity drives. The Marines’ Toys for Tots program collects new gifts to distribute to young children. Families can view more details at salvationarmynwohio.org.

Residents across Lucas County must apply during the designated dates in Toledo to receive holiday items.
