Cedar Point coaster manufacturer linked to fatal fall in Atlanta

An Atlanta man died on Monday when he fell from the Goliath ride at Six Flags Over Georgia. Theme parks across the country closed several rides following the fatal incident. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the deadly fall.

Six Flags quickly closed six rides at parks nationwide. State records show that Cedar Point operates four rides built by the same company.

The Switzerland firm Bolliger & Mabillard, known as B&M, manufactured the Atlanta ride. The manufacturer built four rides currently running at the park:

  • Gate Keeper
  • Raptor
  • Rougarou
  • Valravn

Another park in Cincinnati also operates rides from the same builder. Kings Island features three rides from the company: Banshee, Diamondback, and Orion. Following the Georgia death, Kings Island temporarily closed both Diamondback and Orion.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Amusement Ride and Safety & Fairs oversees all roller coasters in the state. The division inspects these rides and issues operational licenses. State regulators keep official public databases for all licensed equipment.

Inquiries were sent to staff regarding the operational status of the rides. Officials were asked if any rides closed or matched the Atlanta layout. The venue has not responded.
