Gabe Singh pursues Olympic track dreams following return to Sylvania
Professional runner Gabe Singh is training in Sylvania with his focus set on Olympic competition. His athletic journey follows international medal wins and a national record performance for the Philippines. The local sprinter recently returned to the area to prepare for future global events.
Singh graduated from Sylvania Northview High School in 2021. He holds dual citizenship with the United States and the Philippines.
Workouts on the hill at the high school launched his path to Division 1 sports. Philippine officials reviewed his race marks once he received his Philippine passport. They invited him to race in a national contest.
“Ended up winning gold in the 400m and silver in the 400m hurdles,” Singh said.
Those race results earned him a roster spot at the Asian Games. The international sporting event takes place once every four years. Singh helped establish a new Philippine national record in the 4x400m mixed relay.
Singh recently came home to Toledo. He remains proud of his track record. He said his training does not stop here.
“I want to be an Olympian,” Singh said.
He aims to run for the Philippines at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He works with youth runners on their personal athletic targets. Information on his efforts is available on his website, Borado.co.
“That’s been my dream and goal ever since I was a little kid,” Singh said. “Though there’s been ups and downs in this journey, the journey is a beautiful one.“
International track events allow athletes with dual nationality to represent selected countries. Sports governing groups review official race times to extend national team invites.
Singh continues his sprint training in Sylvania for upcoming summer games. He remains dedicated to the running track.
