Toledo Flock camera vandalized with paint on East Alexis Road
A license plate reader in Toledo was spray-painted over the weekend on East Alexis Road. Officers discovered the damage on Saturday.
The device belongs to the Flock system, according to the Toledo Police Department. Officers are investigating to find out who coated the lens.
The incident follows reports of other damage to the devices across Toledo. A sixth camera was previously found cut down.
Five Toledo City Council members now want the city to end its use of the technology. They introduced a resolution urging the city administration to cancel contracts with Flock. The measure also calls for the deletion of all data stored so far.
City council members met Tuesday to begin discussions on the measure. The council has not scheduled a final vote yet.
Flock cameras capture vehicle details to help law enforcement trace cars across public roads. Municipal councils review such vendor agreements during regular public legislative sessions.
The police department has not named any suspects in the Toledo investigation.
