The Toledo Zoo announced the birth of a reticulated giraffe calf on Sept. 16. The calf was born to mother Rae and father Rocket after a 15-month pregnancy, according to the zoo.
The baby is Rae’s first calf and Rocket’s fourth. Rocket is also father to Franklin, born in September 2023, and Eugene, born in January 2026.
Zoo officials said Rae is showing strong maternal instincts and keepers are closely monitoring mother and baby as they bond and get settled.
There is no word yet on the gender or name of the calf. The zoo said more updates will be given at a later time.
