Suspect identified in fatal Monroe stabbing and fire that killed teen
Investigators in Monroe have located a suspect in a fatal home blaze and blade attack, the sheriff’s office said. The incident left one teenager dead and sent two injured adults to the hospital on Saturday morning.
The suspect is not in police custody. Officials have not released the name of the suspect. Deputies said the person believed to be responsible is fully accounted for.
Deputies found multiple people with puncture injuries upon arrival at the mobile home park. Trenton Grant, 15, died at the scene. Two adults went to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Neighbor Raven Lawson reported calling 911 upon seeing the house blaze. She saw multiple people running from the home. She said they shouted that a man had a weapon and wanted to kill them.
Lawson said the man walked outside holding a blade. He then charged toward a vehicle holding Lawson and her fiancé. The man struck the car window and asked to enter.
“We finally got the car started, he was still holding onto the handle. We didn’t hit him like everybody thinks we did, we drug him,” Lawson said. “Once he finally let go, he ended up dropping the knife at the end of the driveway.”
Lawson drove away safely. The incident took place on Raintree Boulevard. Grant’s sister, LeAndra Baker, said two relatives remain hospitalized in critical condition.
“Our family is devastated by the tragedy that occurred on Raintree Boulevard on Saturday morning. We have lost our beloved Trenton, our 15-year-old brother who was deeply loved and will be mourned forever. Two members of our family remain in critical condition in the hospital, and we are asking for privacy and positive thoughts as they fight for their lives.
We are grateful to the first responders, hospital staff, and victim advocates who have cared for our family.”
Baker said her brother was an empath and a dedicated scholar. Grant played football, ran track and field, and performed in the school orchestra.
The family requested financial support for funeral costs. Direct gifts go to the House of Day Funeral Home in Toledo. A GoFundMe online drive is also active.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at Monroe High School. The event honors Grant and Garrett Siffer. Siffer died in a separate car crash.
