Man rescued after getting trapped in silo auger in Carrollton

Emergency crews rescued an unnamed man from the top of an agricultural structure Sunday evening in Carrollton. The victim suffered injuries and required urgent transport to an area trauma center.

The man became trapped in an auger system at the site. A deputy from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was among the first emergency responders to arrive. He climbed the structure.

The deputy reached the injured worker quickly. He applied a tourniquet to control severe bleeding. Other emergency units arrived soon.

Firefighters from Carrollton, Magnolia, Great Trail Fire District, and Canton responded to the call. The crews worked together at the top level. They freed the patient and lowered him down safely.

A medical helicopter flew to the scene for rapid transport. Weather conditions prevented flight operations. Medics placed the man into an ambulance instead.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol provided a road escort to the closest trauma hospital in Akron. Officials said the patrol escort saved “precious minutes and provided an extra level of safety to the patient, other public on the road, and the EMS crew in the back of the ambulance.”

Emergency medical services routinely coordinate with law enforcement for high-speed escorts during severe ground transports. Mutual aid agreements allow surrounding municipal fire districts to respond across jurisdictional lines. These protocols help local units manage complex technical rescues in Carrollton.

The patient reached hospital staff for emergency care. Responders cleared the scene.
