Construction worker seriously injured in Lake Township turnpike crash

A construction worker was seriously injured in Lake Township early Tuesday morning. The collision happened along the turnpike near Interstate 280. The injured man is 29 years old and lives in Parma.

The Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. It took place in the westbound lanes around 1:30 a.m.

A 23-year-old Bowling Green driver pulled into traffic from a work zone, authorities said. A semi truck struck that vehicle. A 35-year-old Bedford man drove the semi, according to authorities.

Both vehicles then entered the work area. The Parma worker was struck there. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to area hospitals as well.

Lake Township sits along major transit routes in northern Ohio. State troopers routinely handle traffic investigations on this highway system. The crash remains under investigation.

The highway patrol has not released further details.
