Waterville wildlife rescue Nature’s Nursery takes in record number of animals

Allison Aey reported that Nature’s Nursery Wildlife Rescue in Waterville admitted nearly 3,900 animals so far this year. The intake total marks the highest count in the 37-year history of the organization. It signals growing pressures on wildlife.

The facility admitted injured, sick, and orphaned animals during that time. Aey serves as the executive director for the wildlife rescue in Waterville. She called the record number a warning sign about pressures facing local wildlife.

Wildlife rescue organizations treat distressed animals and provide care until they recover. Staff members evaluate admitted wildlife to determine if creatures need medical treatment or shelter.

The Waterville center focuses on challenges facing local creatures and actions the community can take to help.
